Alternatives to FTP

We have many processes that FTP files to and from the iSeries within the network and we are looking for other methods of moving the data.

One method that was suggest is a file share.  From what I've read it makes the IFS available to other servers.  That may work in some situations but the one I'm working with FTPs csv files from the iSeries IFS to a Windoze server.  Does file share work in that fashion?  Are there other viable alternatives?

Thanks.

Sockets interface - Device ip changes to 0.0.0.120

I've written a sockets program to listen to messages received from some network attached devices. Process works well but twice in the last 2 months one of the devices has started using an unknown ip address of 0.0.0.120 even though each device has a static ip address. Device starts using its correct ip address once the listening program is ended and restarted. Any help would be appreciated. Listening program also replies to the requested from the device.

Running DDM and ICF Programs on V6.1

I have a customer that is currently on V5R3 and wants to go to V6R1.  They have multiple systems that use both DDM and ICF programs to communicate between systems.  They have been running this software for over 20 years now and run over SNA.  Would they have to be changed to run over TCP/IP in V6R1?  Would I have to use AnyNet or AnyNet/2 to do that?  Would this be a simple change or a fairly complex change? Thanks.

Network printing

This is kind of a two part question, I currently have an printer configured using PJL and it works except I I was hoping to be able to change the size of paper it uses. Currently I can only figure out how to set it in the device description. I have tried to change the page size parameters using the OVRPRTF but nothing seems to work. It will always try and print on what is in the device description.

Secondly from what I have read IPDS would be the better way, though I have not read anything that really says why. I can only find that it is the preferred method.

System I Navigator and 64bit Windows 7

I'm not sure if this topic belongs in this area or not, but here goes...

The company recently upgraded my laptop, and it was necessary to install the 64bit version of Windows 7.  Our Power7 is on v6r1 and we have installed version 7.1 of System i Navigator.  There is only one component that does not work.  I can no longer copy and paste files from the IFS into Windows Explorer.  Some googling indicates that this is a problem between 32bit applications and the 64bit Windows Explorer -- and System i Navigator is a 32bit app.  My workaround is to use Filezilla to do file transfers, but this is not optimal and a huge pain.  I'm wondering if anyone else has had this problem and if anyone has found a solution.

Mocha´s Android TN5250 3G Subfile problem

Hi all,

I´m really going crazy with this problem and I need help.

I´ve bought an android tablet with a 3G connection in order to make some testing. I´ve installed the TN5250 for android that mocha has released (30 days trial full version) and tested to connect to our iSeries with a WIFI and through VPN and everything works fine.

The problem comes when I try to connect through a 3G connection and the VPN. With 3G, every time I ask the iSeries to show me a subfile of one of my programs, the TN5250 gets in LOCK state. After that, the session gets totally blocked and can´t get out of it if I don´t terminate it.

I can´t figure out what could be happening here. I think it is not a connection stability problem, because I can work with the 3G connection if I don´t ask the system for a subfile without any problem.
I´ve asked Mocha's team for help, but they say they suppose it´s a connection problem because the 5250 code can´t know which type of connection is being used.

Does anybody has a clue of what could be happening?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Next Thursday, Nov 14, Power IT Pro is presenting its Power Trends Virtual Conference (http://forms.poweritpro.com/Power-Trends-VC-2013-Main) covering the latest developments and industry trends for IBM's POWER platform. The conference kicks of at 11AM ET with IBM's Pat O'Rourke, who covers this years POWER7+ announcements, with emphasis on Pure Systems solutions that encompass AIX, and Linux, which has become an important enabler for IBM i shops.

I'll be speaking in more detail on Linux, discussing the five reasons IBM's PowerLinux is the best Linux hosting platform. If you thought PowerLinux was just hardware, you haven't heard IBM's latest news, which extends PowerLinux into its main POWER lineup.

Kat Lind, chief systems engineer at Solitaire Interglobal Ltd, will hold forth on key industry trends that affect all of us. Kat will discuss both application and platform attributes that will drive the POWER forward.

I hope to see you there!

iPad TN5250 client problems.

We have an iPad and downloaded Falcon and Mocha TN5250 clients. We get connected to the system, get a signon display but it doesn't like our passwords. It accepts userid because system will disable the profile after three times so we know it's the password that it's choking on.

 Any ideas?

We are looking to replace internal FTP processes with direct file shares to and from the iSeries server to other servers within the local network.  The other servers include Windoze and UNIX servers.

sftp to a bank

I am researching using sftp to transfer files to our bank.  The bank has sent me the connection information (url, user id and password).  Based on what I have read so far it appears I need to use sftp from inside qsh.  I dont see where the typical url, user and password are entered for this command.  I asked them about setting up a certificate but they dont understand why I would need one.  I am not sure of the OS I am connecting too but it appears to be unix.

Any ideas suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Steve

EIM and NAS

Hi,

I'm trying to setup Single Sign-On on our AS400 and all information I found from IBM about how to configure Enterprise Identity Mapping (EIM) and Network Authentication Server (NAS) are dated from 2004 to 2006.

So I'm wondering if those products are still well supported by IBM and if they are there to stay.  They do not exist anymore in the Web Interface of Navigator and I don't want to waste my time to configure all this if it will be abandoned soon (It's not so easy to configure).

Does anybody have an idea about all this?

Thanks,

Simon

QConsole cannot connect

My PC I normally used for Qconsole is being repaired.  I have a backup PC that has Qconsole installed.  When this was tested a couple years ago I could connect.  Now when I try to connect the status just stays in connecting status and I do not get the signin window.  In system Service tools I went into LAN adapter and the IP and router address match what the Operation Console on the PC config properties.  Any suggestions what I can look for?  My OS/400 is V6R1.

QYPSJSVR

Hello

I was analyzing the database connections, External and the CLI

I educated myself that QZDASRVSD is the daemon job for QZDASOINIT and QYPSJSVR is the daemon job for QSQSRVR.

I was able to trace QZDASRVSD in bsystem QSERVER. This sub -system has a routing entry for QZDASRVSD and i understand that this routing entry is used when we do a sTRHOSTSVR job with *DATABASE the daemon job is started QZDASRVSD in QSERVER.

How does QYPSJSVR start in QSYSWRK? I don't see any routing entries like that of QZDASRVSD.

Thanks

iSeries in DHCP environment

Our network people want to make printers on our Windows network DHCP devices.

Currently our remote output queues are confgured using ip addresses - what changes do I have to make to be able to still print to these printers if their ip addresss is not constant?

I have tried with one printer already - referring to it by it's remote name eg. AUMEL-L5-IT rather than a specific ip. I thought that the iSeries may find this on our DNS servers which are listed  in option 12 of CFGTCP. But that doesn't seem to be working.

The iSeries is not configured as a DHCP server or as a DNS server, it is just another machine on the network.

client access file transfer errors

We have a user who is using the IBM i Access for Windows file transfer system.  The user can download data successfully.  However, when the user goes into Data Options and then Details, the user gets the error listed on the screen shots I have attached.  (I am also attaching the transfer profile) This happens on any file transfer the user tries to run.  They will work OK for other users.  There is an exit program attached to the exit point that file transfer uses but the data can be downloaded so I'm not sure if that is an issue or not.  Any thoughts?  Thanks.
